"Porkbusters"

If we had thought it would pass, we wouldn't have voted for it.

FLORENCE - During a live televised forum to discuss issues surrounding the Interstate 73 project, Sen. Jim DeMint assured supporters of the project that South Carolina will not lose out on $81 million in funding.

DeMint and Sen. Lindsey Graham supported a bill in the Senate that would take away all earmarked moneys from a federal transportation bill to pay for Hurricane Katrina relief.

During the forum at Francis Marion University on Thursday night, DeMint said the bill was a way of pointing out wasteful spending.

“We’re not going to lose the money for I-73,” DeMint said in a pre-recorded interview during the forum. “But it was an important gesture.”

Just another piece of evidence that one senator's pork is another senator's sorely needed infrastructure.
