GIs gettin' shafted

I hadn't mentioned this because I figured others would be all over it. But it seems that people are interested in nothing but Sandy Berger's pants and what's in 'em.

So, I'll mention it.

US servicemen and women are getting a royal screwing from insurance and financial services companies. They are being sold sh*tty mutual funds and life insurance policies under the guise of mandatory financial planning classes. Not only does the Pentagon brass not seem to give a rat's ass, but the jackals unscrupulous firms are being touted by personages as august as Gen. Anthony Zinni.

Read it and weep.

UPDATE: The New York Times has Part 2 in today's edition.

As you might expect, Congress is part of the problem, too.

UPDATE: Part 3

UPDATE: Congress apparently likes things just the way they are:

The Pentagon will be barred from taking any action to tighten its rules on the sale of insurance and other financial products on military bases until sometime next spring as a result of a small rider to the defense appropriations bill that was passed by Congress last night.
