Comment Policy

Since my site has never been a high-traffic site, I've never had a problem with trolls, rude commenters, flame wars, or anything of that sort. The few commenters I've had have always been polite and thought-provoking -- just what one wants in a commenter. Consequently, I've never had to delete a comment (other than duplicates) and have never banned anyone from commenting. So as far as actual commenters are concerned, I would like to continue providing a comment facility here.

Comment spam is a different story. It was a matter of hours between going live with the new blog and receiving my first comment spam.

I plan to attempt to manage the problem with available MT plug-ins. If that doesn't work, I may have to remove the comment facility.

Those problems aside, if you have a blog and are making a substantive comment, a post on your blog with a trackback to mine will probably serve us both better in the long run than will a comment here. For bloggers with no built-in trackback pinging, I suggest the Wizbang Trackback form.

UPDATE: I find it necessary to point out that comments, by design, are neither private nor confidential.

UPDATE: In an attempt to deal with comment spam, comments are now open for only 10 days after the original posting.
